SacraMusica
is a space for music, poetry, imagery and new media reflecting the
connection between creativity and spirituality. In particular it
offers expressions of contemporary Western Sufism — often called
Universal Sufism. This work is based on three simple principles.
-
The
purpose of art/music/poetry etc. be it sufi, mystical, sacred,
or profane is transport; it succeeds to the extent that it
take the viewer-listener somewhere. Ideally it brings the
viewer-listener to some sort of awakening, re-envisioning,
even exhilarating relocation to a world sensed yet not, before
this encounter, seen.
-
Sufi
music, Sufi Poetry, Sufi
Stories and other creative
expressions serve to transport the viewer –listener to a
dimension of wisdom, mysticism, and realization whose effect
is to entrance while it transforms the way we see, the way we
feel, the way we respond to the world around us. The works of
Shakespeare (pir of sheiks?!) is a great example of this.
-
Creativity
as part of personal spiritual practice is all but essential if
we are to deepen our insight, compassion, and heart beyond the
limitations of intellect. In other words there are levels of
perception, understanding and awareness which are best
achieved through work in what the great Suif Ibn al Arabi
called the Imaginal Realm.
