a new telling of the sufi classic

The Conference
 of the Birds

In the late 12th century a Persian perfumer by the name of Farid ud-Din Attar wrote an esoteric tale about birds who set out in search of their king. Fabulous, perplexing, enchanting, rich with psychological insights and spiritual revelation, The Conference of the Birds has come down through the centuries as one of the most enduring illuminations of the Sufi way.

This new version not only transposes the story from the written to the spoken word. Taking a bit of a risk, it also seeks to address a 21st century audience. So, while retaining the essential narrative and many of the teaching devices of Attar’s masterpiece, it attempts to cast the allegory in terms familiar to the contemporary quest for enlightenment.
