ufi tales are age-old teaching stories. But, unlike
other fables or parables, there is usually not an obvious lesson to be derived. Rather, there is often a twist - a mystical twist, if you like - in most of these stories that invites the listener to ponder what their deeper meanings might be. Humorous, touching, sometimes puzzling, these stories are actually a sort of "medicine" whose purpose is to heal errors of perception and thought, and to enable us to relate more creatively to the mystery of life.Because Sufism is predominantly an aural stream, stories, jokes, and poetry have been central to its transmission. The stories on this CD are mostly classic tales told for centuries as part of an ongoing caravan of wonder and realization. While retaining there predominantly medieval Arabic setting, they are retold here from a more contemporary western viewpoint.
